What You Need to Know to Make World-Class Stretch Film : Plastics Technology

Advances in materials, feedblock/die technologies, and winding can help processors develop more sophisticated cast-stretch products. Nanolayer feedblock and die package from Cloeren. Nanolayer feedblocks are considerably larger than conventional coex blocks. For dies, flow-channel shapes had to be reexamined, and precision of tolerances had to be tightened up, in order to meet the process demands associated with such thin layers Here, a 17-micron LLDPE reference film is compared with a 15-micron, seven-layer film comprising Exceed mPE resins and Vistamaxx polymers. The thinner, 15-micron film delivers physical properties similar to those of the 17-micron film, as highlighted by the blue line in the center spider chart. The chart at the bottom demonstrates that the holding force of the thinner, 15-micron film is almost equivalent to that of the 17-micron reference film, despite the weight of the film being considerably less. Also, the 15-micron film breaks at a higher tension than the 17-micron reference film during a pallet-wrapping test Here, a 17-micron LLDPE market reference film is compared with a 15-micron nanolayer film comprising Exceed mPE resins and Vistamaxx polymers. ...

The 9 best razors for women, tried and tested The Telegraph Search Icon Save Facebook icon Twitter icon Instagram icon LinkedIn icon Facebook icon Twitter icon Instagram icon LinkedIn icon

Finding the best razor for shaving your legs is like looking for a razor blade in a haystack. To narrow down your search, we have tested a variety of products and created a shortlist of what we consider the best razors for women. In an ideal world, we would happily not shave our legs or any part of our bodies (down with the patriarchy). In reality, however, most of us still reach for an epilator or book in for a waxing appointment as soon as we start to feel stubble. For a more pain-free method of hair removal, a lot of us shave - but there are now so many razors for women to choose from. Disposable razors, ones with cushioned heads, straight-head razors and now even ladies’ electric razors are the main options. And that’s not taking into account the razors that are marketed at men; these are often cheaper and just as effective as razors that are marketed at women. Most razors have between three and five blades. But how many do you need for a close shave? According to beauty therapist Nathalie Eleni, “the more blades, the better”. “More blades provide a closer shave and work well for more sensitive skin,” she says. Aim for a minimum of five blades because, “the...

It works great on just about everything, it’s nontoxic, and it doesn’t scratch. I’ve even used it on my chrome bathroom fixtures. I’ve used it to scrub oil stains on the garage floor, lipstick off kids’ toys, baseboards, shower doors, toilets, sinks, my smooth-top stove, and range hood. It’s never scratched once and it works so well! This is a classic product that still works better than the new stuff.” —Kathleen G. This set includes a suction cup TV sponge holder and two dishwasher-safe, non-scratch polyester sponges. Promising review: “I had a stained mattress that I’d been covering with a mattress pad for years. As I was preparing for a move, I decided to give this a try and see if it could remove the stains that had been there for well over SEVEN YEARS. I honestly don’t even remember what caused the stains, but it r...

Good audio quality. Long-lasting battery. Sleek, all-metal design with thin screen bezels. Dedicated number pad. Webcam

Good audio quality. Long-lasting battery. Sleek, all-metal design with thin screen bezels. Dedicated number pad. Webcam kill switch for increased privacy. With sleek styling and useful features like a webcam kill switch, the HP Envy x360 15 offers excellent value for big-screen-convertible laptop shoppers. A 15-inch laptop like the HP Envy x360 15 (starts at $619.99; $999.99 as tested; available exclusively at Best Buy) is a bit of an odd duck. This type of 2-in-1 convertible laptop has a 360-degree-rotating hinge, which is slightly more complicated and often heavier than the one on a conventional laptop. Meanwhile, the chassis required to house the 15-inch screen is uncomfortable to hold in your hands for more than a few seconds compared with a more manageable 13-inch 2-in-1. But there are niche use cases for a 15-inch convertible, such as propping it up as a tent for an impromptu presentation. The Envy x360 15 performs tasks like this well, it has a sleek all-metal design, it’s relatively inexpensive, and best of all it isn’t as heavy as you might think. For big-screen-convertible shoppers, it’s worth a look. If you are a big-screen-convertible shopper, you ...

Sarabande Foundation ‘death head’ moth logo reborn as sterling silver pin

Jeweller Benjamin Hawkins has designed an exquisite silver moth pin brooch of exceptional artistry and haunting beauty to raise funds for the charity established from the estate of the late Lee Alexander McQueen. The moth was a recurring theme in McQueen’s work and was chosen as the identity of Sarabande because it is a symbol of determination. The moth never questions its path towards the light and, similar to the butterfly, it is a symbol of rebirth and metamorphosis. The Sarabande Foundation supports creative minds with the potential to push boundaries and overturn prevailing orthodoxies. This is achieved through scholarships, subsidised studio space and mentorship with artists and designers from across the globe. The original death head moths that McQueen used were bought from Evolution in Soho, New York. The moth was photographed by Nick Knight OBE, a patron of the Foundation, to create the logo of the moth in flames for the launch of Sarabande. The moth, designed and prototyped by former studio resident Benjamin Hawkins, has been crafted in his London atelier, then cast and manufactured in a workshop that produces the finest works for the top jewellery houses around the wo...

How to pair PS4 or Xbox controllers with iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Android

The DualShock 4 and Xbox One controllers were originally made to work on their respective consoles, but thanks to Apple’s recent software updates, you can more easily pair them via Bluetooth with your iOS 13 device, iPadOS tablet, or your Apple TV via tvOS 13. Android 10 makes it super easy to pair either controller, too, and you can pair with previous versions of Android and iOS as well. This is probably of particular interest If you subscribe to Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass, as you can play several of the games on offer from either service with a controller. Fortnite paved the way for expanding controller support when it arrived on select phones, but the PS4 and Xbox controllers (though not all Xbox controllers) work on mobile with more games than ever, and crucially, many of those games offer native support for their button layouts. The process for setting up the DualShock 4 and Xbox wireless controller with your device is simple, but the details of the setup vary a bit depending on which controller you have, and what operating system that you’ll be pairing the controller to. We’re going to hit all of the variables below. No matter what kind of device you pair Sony’s Dual...

Distillery Goes Green With Centrifugal Separation of Stillage

The waste produced from 8 Feathers’ distillation process, called stillage, is about 40 percent grain solids and 60 percent water by weight. Separating spent grains from the water proved increasingly difficult as production ramped up. Founded in 2004, 8 Feathers Distillery produces premium whiskeys from locally sourced grains and water from a nearby artesian well. The company disposes of its grain slurry waste sustainably and economically by separating the grain from water using a centrifugal sifter. The grain is donated to a local farmer as livestock feed, while the water is treated before being safely piped into the public wastewater system. The dewatered solids pass through the chute in foreground. The waste produced from the distillation process, called stillage, is about 40 percent grain solids and 60 percent water by weight. The distillery processes 3,000 lbs (1,363 kg) of grain weekly, which produces roughly 7,500 lbs (3,409 kg) of stillage. A local farmer previously picked up eight 300-gallon (1,136-liter) totes per week of the watery grain mixture, but at 940 lbs (423 kg), the totes were difficult to transport and required covers to prevent spillage. “This wet approach w...
